The world is a big place. It can be a little overwhelming looking for a beautiful, breath-taking, amazing but most importantly memorable destination for your elopement.

I'm Nicholas Purcell, a destination wedding photographer who has shoots weddings around the world so I've got a few thoughts on this topic myself.

This is what I look like. Honest, respectable, the glasses are a little arty perhaps.

So below is my list of the Top 8 Amazing location ideas for your Destination Elopement. These are all my photos and if you want a photographer for your elopement email me now.

#8. Santorini

Santorini is such a breath-taking place. I spent less than a week here with Anna my wife in 2004 and it was pure bliss. The volcano is worth the trip if only for the hand-scribbled "Warning Active Volcano" signs. The hot springs are wonderful. Highly recommended.

#7. Paris

My heart belongs to Paris. There's no point saying anything about it except there are amazing spots in Paris that even the locals don't know about so even if you've been there lots of times don't necessarily dismiss it.

#6. Iceland

There's not much to say about beautiful Iceland. Don't forget your mittens though, it's really cold. Budir is a beautiful spot with a perfect little black church but there's lots of options.

It was so cold but there was such stoicism about these Icelandic horses. I wonder if you are exposed to cold your entire life whether you just stop noticing it.

#5. Chateau la Durantie - France

Just because there's only two of you doesn't mean you can't do it in style!

#4. New York

Really, is there anywhere more exciting, more alive? There is nothing you can't find in NYC (except for maybe decent public playgrounds but that's not your problem yet).

#3. Beijing

It's impossible to explain the scale of Beijing without seeming like you're exaggerating. It is staggeringly huge. It's a place of great variety and if you like travel, it provides limitless wandering opportunities. Though you may end up feeling a little like this guy in the photo.

#2 Verona

Romeo and Juliet.Juliet's balcony? I don't need to say anything else really.

#1 Aran Islands, Ireland

Take a step back in time. Enjoy solitude and a silence you've never experienced before. These are the opposite of New York, there's nothing here and that's what makes it so wonderful. There are three islands, if you go in peak season pick either of the smaller two islands to experience what I described.

Whether you plan on being alone in a garden or well-heeled in a ballroom, I love photographing every variety of wedding. Don't assume I might not be interested or available in your day - weddings, to me, are about the start of a new family and family trumps everything.

What now?
