New York Wedding Blog: Wedding Venues

Tell us about your venue. How long have you been holding weddings and how many weddings do you hold per year?

Twin Silos is one of the most unique event barns in the Rochester area. We are located just 30 minutes south of Rochester in the Town of Livonia.Renovations of our historic dairy barn were completed and we started hosting weddings in June of 2014. We kept as much of the original character and
charm of the old barn as possible, while adding many modern amenities to make every event comfortable for all our guests. Some of our unique renovations include multi stall bathrooms built inside the original silos, heat and air conditioning and easy access ramps for any less-mobile guests. We run May through October and hold approximately 20 weddings per season.

Why should a couple consider your venue over other venues?

At Twin Silos we only book one wedding on a weekend to ensure each couple the time and attention they deserve for their special event. Brides can come in on Friday morning and spend the day setting up and decorating the barn, have the ceremony rehearsal and sometimes the rehearsal dinner.
The wedding and reception are held on Saturday. We give the couple until Sunday afternoon to come back and pick up anything left behind on Saturday. This timeframe creates a stress free environment for our couples and gives us the opportunity to get to know them personally after spending
the weekend with them. We take a personal interest in making sure everything goes perfectly for their special day.

What’s the first thing couples usually ask when they come and see you?

Every bride has their own unique questions based on their vision. For some its price, for others it’s all about the amenities the barn has to offer. For some, the caterer and food is most important. We just listen to each brides expectations for their special day and work to help make that vision come
true for them.

What size functions can you hold/host?

We try to keep our functions at or under 180 guests.

Can couples bring in their own caterer? What about alcohol?

We have an exclusive caterer, Partyman Catering. We partnered with a local caterer who is highly rated and shares the same high standards and attention to detail that we do.

Can the ceremony be held at your venue?

Most of our couples do hold their ceremony on site with the beautiful farm fields and woods as the back drop behind the rustic Amish built wedding arbor behind the barn.

Are the couple free to decorate as they like?

Yes, we allow them to add decorations to the barn as they like and they have the entire day before the ceremony to accomplish it. We just ask that they remove all their decorations by 1:00pm on the day following the ceremony

If your venue is outdoors is there a backup space in case of rain?

Yes, we have an indoor arbor and ample space to move the ceremony inside if necessary due to weather.

Could you give our readers some indication of the range of prices for hiring your venue?

The barn price is fixed including all listed amenities and is $4,500 for the three day period. Catering prices can vary greatly depending on type of menu selected, but usually start around $65.00 per person to cover everything including the alcohol with an open bar.

How early do couples need to book you?

We are generally booking 2 years ahead for the prime dates, but as we are writing this at the end of June 2018, we still have a couple of mid-summer 2019 dates available.

What time at night can weddings stay at your venue?

As we are in a residential neighbourhood, our Town operating permit requires music to be shut down by 10:30pm. We ask guests to leave at 11:00pm.

Do you offer accommodation options?

We have several local lodging options nearby. We have a small hotel with restaurant and bar service that offers package deals just 2 miles away, several local charming bed & breakfast inns as well as cottages on Conesus Lake within a 10 minute drive. Chain hotels (Hampton Inn and Quality Inn) are just 9 miles away.

What other (if any) wedding services do you offer?

Many places charge for “wedding planning services” to get the things that we provide for free as part of our package. Someone will be available to help with any set up issues the day before the wedding and we and our caterer will each provide on-site coordinator for the entire event day to make
sure everything goes exactly as planned.
