For this profile I spoke to George Georgiou, designer at Alexis George, a wedding dress designer based in Unley, Adelaide.

Can you tell us about your business? How long have you been helping Adelaide brides find their perfect dress?

Alexis George was establish in 1980 by George & Pat Georgiou. At the time we specialised in Couture evening wear but after a few years our clients were requesting our styles in bridal wear. So I guess we've been making bridal wear for around 35 years.

Can you explain the collections you offer Adelaide brides?

We offer a house collection including all silhouettes which is always changing and also includes many one off pieces.

What do brides need to know about ordering a dress?

They need to know how it will look on them. It's simply too risky ordering from a photo or sketch as there are many ways of cutting the same style. We take care of that.

Whats a typical timeline in ordering a gown?

We usually like to get around 9 months lead time but can usually work with a shorter time.

What makes you a good choice for brides looking for their wedding dress?

All our gowns are made in Adelaide using the best fabrics. We have 35 years of experience and can offer this valuable advice to our brides. Bride's can come in and try on dresses in our boutique and see if the shape and fit suits them.

We have lots of one off pieces and ability to create the most intricate designs. Being designers we also have a range of simple gowns which are difficult to find in other Bridal stores.

Can you give the readers an indication of the range of prices of your dress?

You can purchase a ready to wear piece from our House Collection from around $3000 upwards. Made to measure and couture start at around $6000 upwards.

Do you advise brides on what style of dress might look most flattering on them?

Absolutely and if they want something we don’t particularly like, we will not produce it but explain why and show them a better way. If you are going to wear Alexis George you need to look amazing.

Do brides need to make an appointment with you?

It’s preferable. Brides are welcome to drop in and look around but for trying on an appointment is preferred.
