Red Scooter is an award winning wedding venue in inner Melbourne. For this profile I spoke to Managing Director Eammon Hamilton.
Tell us about your venue.
So what is Red Scooter The Unique Events Venue? You may have seen us from the outside – a warehouse in Balaclava. But, come inside and it’s another world, a slice of New York style with a touch of the surreal. A place where quality food and beverages, music and service combine in a unique environment to create unforgettable weddings. The extraordinary in what looks like an ordinary building. We love to surprise our guests, share the excitement and bring any event to life at Melbourne's most individual venue.. We live to entertain and thrive on the great feedback we receive from our guests.
How long have you been holding weddings and how many weddings do you hold per year?
Red Scooter the company is a bit like our building. You might look at us and say, oh another wedding venue. Big deal, there are a lot of them in Melbourne. But Red Scooter is far more than that – with the ability to host sit down events for as few as 60 guests up to 280 guests and cocktail functions for up to 400, Red Scooter are of great appeal to over 100 weddings annually to a vast number of clients.
Since its conception 1997, we have offered tailored packages weddings, client demand and industry trends have lead to expansion over the years. With the recent introduction of our well-groomed indoor ceremony room, Red Scooter is now in a position to host top quality weddings night and day.
Our hands-on approach to weddings has certainly been of contribution to our growth. We do all of our own catering for each event and we have a small full time event coordination team work together to make each event happen. Our wait staff team grows every year; currently 50 people strong. We encourage all of our staff to get involved in in-house training as well as external training courses such as Certificate III in Hospitality; these courses are hosted at Red Scooter on a monthly basis.
Environmental Sustainability is still a very strong part of our future focus. Recently we upgraded our lighting system to a top-of-the-range LED system, significantly reducing the amount of energy we consume - all new LED par cans use less energy than just a few of our regular incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs.

We ask our wedding clients to tell us what they have in mind, then we add our creativity and experience and the result is exactly what they want it to be! What’s the first thing brides usually ask when they come and see you?
First we work with our clients, to understand their needs, ideas and aspirations for the occasion and their guests – and create a solution that meets their objectives – and ours! Next, comes the all-important planning. Our detail obsessive team work though every step of the process to ensure that everything – from theming and décor to food, entertainment and formal activities - from presenting the first delicious canapé to clearing the last champagne glass, run without a hitch so our clients are free to make the most of their guests and their wedding, while we take care of the rest.
How do we do what we do? We work very hard at creating new ideas, doing the things we do well even better and staying in touch with international trends in entertainment and events. What size functions can you hold/host?
We host sit down events for as few as 60 guests up to 280 guests and cocktail functions for up to 400 guests.
Can couples bring in their own caterer? What about alcohol?
Yes they sure can and during the event a Red Scooter Venue Supervisor is always onsite to ensure the caterers have everything they require and supervise the use of the venue, however they are not responsible for the running of the event.
Can the ceremony be held at your venue?
Yes, our unique and award winning indoor wedding ceremony venue can be used for a sit down or stand up wedding ceremony and commitment ceremonies..

Included in your hire of our premier indoor wedding ceremony venue are the following inclusions.
· One hour access for a ceremony rehearsal in the week prior to your wedding.
· 1.5 hour access allowing for a half hour ceremony duration, guest arrival up to 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the ceremony and departure 30 minutes after the conclusion
· Personal Red Scooter wedding coordinator to work with you on planning your ceremony.
· Ceremony stage for Celebrants, Bride, Groom & Bridal Party.
· 11 metre grey carpet aisle.
· Signing Table with deluxe lounge chairs.
· Sound system compatible with iPod and MP3 players.
· Security and parking attendees to direct guests to our free on and off street parking.
Are the couple free to decorate as they like?
Yes they can, one of the first steps in planning a wedding is deciding on a theme. Once that’s confirmed we work with our clients to make that vision come to life.
If your venue is outdoors is there a backup space in case of rain?
Our indoor wedding ceremony venue ensures you aren’t at the mercy of melbourne’s weather for your wedding or commitment ceremony.
Could you give our readers some indication of the range of prices for hiring your venue?
A wedding ceremony is shorter than a reception and doesn’t include catering, so the cost of a ceremony venue is typically cheaper than wedding reception prices. Our ceremony pricing starts from around $1650.00 including GST (although that excludes you’re chosen celebrant) and our fully inclusive food and beverage reception packages start from $140.00 per person including GST.
How early do couples need to book you?
We suggest 6 to 12 months in advance. This will allow you to get that special date that you want. If you have a special date in mind then you should book Red Scooter as soon as possible. Most couples book 9 months to 1 year ahead.
What time at night can weddings stay at your venue?
These wondrous occasions are long days, and you would be surprised how a day full of excitement (and alcohol!) can have an effect on you and your guests’ stamina. Our wedding venues operating hours are from 6.00am through to 3.00am every day of the week. So if you really want to have a party we can create an experience to suit your individual style and requirements.
Do you offer accommodation options?
We do not have accommodation on site but offer our wedding couples one night of luxury at Melbourne’s 5 Star Hotel Como, which includes breakfast for two, late check out, complimentary use of the outdoor sundeck, swimming pool and gymnasium.
