Located two hours from Manhattan in upstate New York, Mountain Top Farm is a beautiful new venue available for couples. For this profile I spoke to event manager Maria-Luisa Estrella.
Tell us about your venue. How long have you been holding weddings and how many weddings do you hold per year?
We are a start up. Mountain Top farm has 242 acres of rolling hills and meadows. Even though we are a start up as a business, MTFE has hosted birthdays, an engagement, wedding reception, and myself as a planner have 36 years of entertaining royalty and heads of state... hosting many events in my home in Morocco and in Westchester as well as at Mountain Top Farm.
Why should a couple consider your venue over other venues?
We have an amazing view and the acreage. Ceremonies and receptions can be held at the pond area which has more than 4 football fields of acreage (as the surveyor put it) and very picturesque... around the house which has a great lawn and the best Mountain Views from the terrace, even the birch forest is a Magical site for a ceremony.
What’s the first thing brides usually ask when they come and see you?
They always first ask about pricing and we reply that it can be customised according to the size of the party. Prices are on our website according to the area they prefer to rent.
What size functions can you hold/host?
Our permit allows us to host up to 150 guests but as we have to apply for a permit for every event and the lower fields can accommodate so much more, we can accommodate more than 150.
Can couples bring in their own caterer?
Yes they can, but we work with a preferred caterer just down the road from us. More convenient and very creditable in our area.
What about alcohol?
Yes. Our caterer can include in their repertoire. Or we have a wine merchant that we work with as well. Or couples can opt for their own wine merchant. Working with our own wine merchant can have some benefits.
Can the ceremony be held at your venue?
Absolutely. At the birch forest...at the pond, at the terrace. Many options for the ceremony.
Are the couple free to decorate as they like?
Yes they can. We also have a vendor list of florists if they don’t have their own. We are also wedding stylists if the couple will have confidence in us.
If your venue is outdoors is there a backup space in case of rain?
We are an outdoor venue. We recommend tents in case of rain. However we work with a rental company that will allow tent cancellation 1 week prior to the event if the weather looks good.
Could you give our readers some indication of the range of prices for hiring your venue?
Rental ranges from $2500- $11,000. $2500 being a party of 25 people mid-week (our elopement package) and $11,000 being a two day package (welcome party or rehearsal dinner and ceremony and reception).
How early do couples need to book you?
Normally, couples book at least a year in advance. Couples marrying in 2020 are inquiring now. But we are confident that we can make a wedding happen in 2 months.
What time at night can weddings stay at your venue?
Our town has a noise ordinance of 11 p.m. as the end of amplified outdoor music. But we can accommodate after party groups with soft music at $250 per extra hour (event time is 6 hours). This extra charge because staff has to stay later for clean up and shut down.
Do you offer accommodation options?
We do have a cottage that we rent out. It has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. We recommend the great room which has a king bedroom and a living area with 2 day beds (and a billiard table) for a bridal lounge where the entourage can hang out before the ceremony begins. Bride can dress up there instead of traveling to our venue in her bridal dress. All rooms are equipped with wifi, smart TVs and satellite tv plus a refrigerator, nespresso machine, a microwave, an electric tea kettle, and we will throw in a bottle of Veueve clicquot champagne for the couple or bride and family.

Not only that, we have a graphics designer who can design your “ save the date” cards, menus and print them as well as your place cards. She can also build your wedding websites which can direct your guests to transportation, lodging options, gift registry, event schedule, etc. Also on our team is a travel specialist who can help you plan your getaway. Experienced in the travel industry for decades and very well travelled herself, she can find you very good hotel and sightseeing deals. As we are a “destination” event space, as part of our planning service we can book hotel accommodations for your event guests as well as transport.
