OHEKA Castle Wedding: New York: USA
If OHEKA Castle was good enough for Citizen Kane to be filmed there, then it must be worth considering for your wedding. This is one of the most beautiful private estates available to hire in all of the US and should be high on the list for any wedding in New York. For this profile I spoke to Kelly Melius, Director of Sales at OHEKA.
Tell us about your venue. How long have you been holding weddings and how many weddings do you hold per year?
Oheka Castle is an historic privately owned mansion surrounded by impeccably manicured grounds and is the second largest private home in America. Located in Huntington, New York on Long Island’s famed Gold Coast between New York City and The Hamptons.
Originally the estate was the private summer home to the affluent Kahn family until it was sold in 1934. The estate took on many lives before it was abandoned for over 10 years and left to near destruction. In 1984, the estate was purchased by the current owner, developer, Gary Melius, who invested over $30 million to restore OHEKA, bringing it back to life for guests to enjoy once again.
OHEKA has been hosting weddings since 1996. On average we hosts about 200 weddings per year.
Why should a couple consider your venue over other venues?
OHEKA Castle is a premier wedding venue and the perfect setting to host a special occasion. With just one wedding per day, couples marry in a castle they can call their own.
What’s the first thing brides usually ask when they come and see you?
Date availability is always the first question.
What size functions can you hold/host?
400 guests for a sit-down dinner (tables of 12) with music & dancing can be accommodated comfortably in the Terrace Room. Our famous Gatsby Style events (on-going affairs) can accommodate up to 1000 guests.
Can the ceremony be held at your venue?
Yes, if you are having your reception at OHEKA. If the weather permits then the ceremony can be held outside in the Formal Gardens. If there is inclement weather the ceremony will be moved indoors.
Are the couple free to decorate as they like?
Yes, within the event space which includes all of the following: entry foyer, upper foyer, grand ballroom, formal dining room, and terrace room
If your venue is outdoors is there a backup space in case of rain?
Yes, the grand ballroom and formal dining room are the best spaces for an indoor wedding at OHEKA.
Could you give our readers some indication of the range of prices for hiring your venue?
The pricing is based on many variables and there is too much information to be discussed over the phone or by email. It's best for couples to get in touch and visit us to discuss their requirements.
How early do couples need to book you?
Usually, at least one year prior.
What time at night can weddings stay at your venue?
All weddings and events must end no later than 1:00am.
Do you offer accommodation options?
Yes, the Hotel at OHEKA has 32 guestrooms and suites situated on the upper floors of the estate. All guestrooms and suites include a continental breakfast the next morning from 8:30 am until 10:30 am. Buyouts and special group rates of 10 or more are also available.

Additionally, as a hotel wedding couples have the option to reserve a block of rooms or buyout all 32 guestrooms for the night of their wedding.
