How to find the best makeup artist for your wedding in Adelaide

Adelaide has so many talented and amazing Makeup Artists which can make finding the right one for you a difficult and daunting process. Here are some simple ideas to help you find the best one for you.

1. Know what you want

Start by researching makeup looks that you love, keep in mind when researching to look at pictures of ladies that have a similar hair colour and skin tone to yourself. Google images and Pinterest are great search engines. Use words like: wedding makeup, bridal makeup, soft pink makeup, peach makeup, red carpet makeup etc.

It is also so important to be aware of looks that you don’t like and to communicate that later to your Artist.

2. Shortlist the makeup artists

Once you have an idea of the looks you love you can start searching for Artists in Adelaide using:

  • The Adelaide Wedding Blog
  • Google (try - Adelaide Makeup Artists, Bridal Makeup Adelaide, Wedding Makeup Adelaide etc.)
  • Instagram (try- #adelaidemakeupartist, #adelaidemua, #adelaidehmua and #makeupartistadelaide).

Spend time looking through Artists portfolios and you will get a feel for which Artist may be right for you.

3. Set your budget

Prices for professional Makeup Artists in Adelaide can range from $85 - $150 per face plus a call out or location fee to come to you on the day. Celebrity Artists are usually more.

I recommend including these costs into your budget as how you look in your photos is so important. So many Brides make a large investment into photographer so looking your best for the photos is just as important.

4. Consider your skin

Don’t be afraid to ask Artists what Brand of makeup they use. Some will only use one brand and others will have a selection. This is especially important if you have and allergies or have sensitive skin.

5.  To try or not to try

I have worked with Brides that haven’t had a trial (and that is totally fine) and some of my Brides have had up to 5 trials so it really is a personal preference. There are benefits to having a trial such as you get to meet the Artist, they can get to know your face and skin, you can spend time discussing looks and what you like and don’t like (often on the day there’s no time to do this) and you can see what the makeup looks like and how it lasts for you.

With trials my hot tip is to wear clothes that are the same colour as your dress so you can see what the colours all look like together. If you still aren’t sure on a look and it’s in your budget keep having trials, explore different looks and colours and have fun!

6. Final tip

Artists can book out early so get in as quickly as you can.
