New York Wedding Blog: Wedding Venues

For this profile I spoke to Lauren Carbonneau, Sales Manager at 3 West Club.

Tell us about your venue. How long have you been holding weddings and how many weddings do you hold per year?

We are a historic building right outside Rockefeller Center with four private clubs that use it as their headquarters (it was originally built in 1933 for a private club), plus we are a boutique hotel and offer six unique event spaces for anybody to rent. We have been hosting weddings for around 25 years and have approximately 30-40 weddings every year.

Why should a couple consider your venue over other venues?

Our couples always rave about how the space is formal and classically elegant yet inviting– a comfortable place guests can really relax and celebrate in! There are pieces of history laced throughout our venue but we also recently refreshed our entire venue with updated paint, lighting, and bathroom fixtures. Our team goes above and beyond for incredible white glove service and when you rent all six of our event spaces (as most of our weddings do) it really feels like you have your own personal private club in Midtown Manhattan.

How old is the building?

84 years old.

How do people most often utilize the many spaces?

Depending on guest count and the couple’s unique vision, most of the time weddings utilize our spaces as follows:

  • Grand Salon (3rd floor) for a ceremony
  • Solarium (9th floor) for cocktail hour, with an outdoor terrace and incredible views of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
  • Grand Ballroom (2nd floor) for dinner and dancing, with Austrian crystal chandeliers, 25+ ft ceilings, and floor to ceiling windows
  • Occasionally couples utilize our Lounge (4th floor) for a late night snack, delayed dessert, and last drink, which feels like an old mansion’s living room and perfect for winding down before heading to their hotel room on-site.
  • We also have two small rooms, the Lincoln Room and Library, on the 4th floor great for taking photos while getting ready before the wedding begins.

What size functions can you hold/host?

Anywhere from 10 guests in our Lincoln Room or Library for an intimate dinner up to 150 guests in our Grand Ballroom (with a dance floor). Our most common group size is around 75-125 guests.

Can couples bring in their own caterer? What about alcohol?

No, all catering and bar service must be provided by our in-house team. Our clients are always very happy with our delicious food by our Executive Chef, Gary Eisenberg, who makes everything from scratch down to the stock. Many happy clients have mentioned our great food and bar service on TheKnot and WeddingWire reviews. We do make an exception for wedding cakes, which are allowed to be brought in from any licensed baker and there is no fee for us to cut and serve the cake.

Can the ceremony be held at your venue?

Yes! Around 65% of our weddings host their ceremonies with us.

Are the couple free to decorate as they like?

Yes, the only restrictions are: no confetti or glitter, no nails/tacks/holes/glue/tape to the walls or ceilings, and real candles are allowed they just must be enclosed in a vase of some sort.

If your venue is outdoors is there a backup space in case of rain?

We do have an outdoor terrace on the 9th floor but there is plenty of adjacent indoor space in case of rain plus we have an extendable awning that keeps the terrace dry in light rain.

Could you give our readers some indication of the range of prices for hiring your venue?

The venue rental is $3000 - $5000. Catering and bar packages can certainly be customized, but generally run $165 - $195++ per guest with full service hors d’oeuvres, 3 course plated dinner, fully hosted bar and tableside wine/champagne service.

How early do couples need to book you?

4-12 months in advance

What time at night can weddings stay at your venue?

Midnight is the latest a wedding may end.

Do you offer accommodation options?

Yes, we are a boutique hotel with 27 on-site hotel rooms including 2 spacious suites couples may use to get ready in.

What other (if any) wedding services do you offer?

Beyond serving as the venue, catering, and bar-service we also offer partial-service wedding coordination; meaning, we will help build timelines, coordinate custom linen and/or chair rentals, coordinate with vendors and be on-site for vendors to arrive the morning of the wedding, plus manage the ceremony if necessary.
