5 global wedding trends to take inspiration from

If you’re one of the many people planning their wedding for the near future, the latest wedding trends can be a rich source of inspiration. Although everyone wants their special day to be unique, incorporating trends and traditions can be a way of adding an extra spark to your wedding that you might not have thought of yourself. Here’s a quick rundown on what's trending in the wedding world right now.

1. Eco-friendliness

As we become increasingly aware of environmental issues as a society, more people are now incorporating an eco-friendly approach into their wedding. Waste is a big problem for weddings – especially when it comes to food and single-use plastic. Cutting down in these areas is an obvious first step, but this is only the beginning. Sourcing food and drink from nearby suppliers can reduce your carbon footprint and support local businesses at the same time, and using recycled materials for your invites or even your wedding favours can be a great way to show your guests that you're all about saving the planet!

2. Making a statement with your headwear

Many people are ditching the traditional veil and replacing it with more vibrant boho headpieces and hairbands. Using real flowers in headwear is becoming popular in the wedding world, and it's even better if you're looking to go down the "natural" wedding route. For a truly striking look, you can pick out flowers that complement the colour of your outfit.

3. The great outdoors

Outdoor weddings have been very popular in recent years, and the coronavirus has now accelerated this trend (with the infection risk known to be lower in outdoor settings). Whether you’re looking to create a magical atmosphere in a forest clearing, or a vintage feel with teas and cakes on the lawn, outdoor weddings can be a very attractive option. If you’re worried about the weather, pavilions and tents can provide the necessary shelter, but because of this outdoor weddings are definitely more suited to the summer months!

4. Bringing in new tech

As the world we live in becomes increasingly filled with gadgets and tech, it's understandable that some of this may start creeping into the wedding planning world. However, this doesn't mean that we shouldn't embrace it – technology can bring an added dimension. For example, one thing that can transform a space for a wedding is video mapping. This trend involves using projectors to project images onto walls and ceilings, transforming spaces and producing amazing light displays.

5. It's all about the velvet

Love it or hate it, velvet has started to make more appearances in the wedding world. From velvet bridesmaids dresses, to velvet tablecloths it seems that velvet has its place everywhere in a wedding. The texture and colours of velvet can certainly give weddings a lavish appearance, and it could be just the aesthetic you’re looking for.

There are many other exciting trends in circulation at the moment, of course, so inspiration is never far away. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself though – have fun with it! Wedding planning can be very stressful at times, but it will all be worth it when it comes to the big day itself.
