Tell us about your venue.

The George Ballroom is an iconic Melbourne space, built in 1886 it was the original dining hall for The George Hotel c.1857. Damm Fine Food Co has had the holding since April 2015 and we hold between 30 - 40 weddings per year along side our other events. The space really needs to be seen to be believed!

Why should a couple consider your venue over other venues?

There is nowhere else like The George Ballroom in Australia. We are a very unique and easily adaptable space with an energy that cannot be matched. A rich history is painted on the walls, with a heritage overlay that will protect it for years to come.

What’s the first thing brides usually ask when they come and see you?

Couples are always interested to know the story behind the colour palette, it is often thought that we painted it. In the early 90's an artist came into the space to distress and breakdown the different layers of paint, revealing its colourful history and showing the different styles and era's. Today, the colour palette and textures make for incredible photos and is a florists dream!

What size functions can you hold/host?

150 sit down dining with a dance floor & 200 stand up cocktail.

Can couples bring in their own caterer? What about alcohol?

Damm Fine Food Co is the exclusive caterer, a premium and a well known Melbourne company that has been at the forefront of event catering for 21 years. We also hold the liquor license with wine and spirit packages you can create for yourself.

Can the ceremony be held at your venue?

Ceremony's can be held in the venue when the reception is also booked. A venue on the ground floor of the hotel can be used for ceremony's as well should the couple be looking for two different spaces.

Are the couple free to decorate as they like?

Couples are more than welcome to decorate the space as they like as long as they do not touch the walls or ceiling due to the heritage overlay.

Would you give our readers some indication of the range of prices for hiring your venue?

Our package prices vary depending on what the couple wishes to offer their guests, we pride ourselves on being as flexible as possible. Please get in touch if you would like to some of our packages. Minimum spends can vary from between $8,000 - $20,000.

How early do couples need to book you?

For a Saturday couples are usually pretty safe booking around 12 months in advance. But you never really know!

Do you offer accommodation options?

I am more than happy to suggest close options for you.

What time at night can weddings stay at your venue?

Your dance floor can go to 11.00pm with the bar extending to midnight with background music if you wish.

What other (if any) wedding services do you offer?

As Event Managers we offer a full wedding management service and will liaise with your suppliers to ensure you have a smooth lead up and enjoy the process. Being in a busy bustling area, we often help couples organise their after parties too!
